Machinist Apprenticeship Program For Host Companies/Machine Shops

TAKE PART IN THE RMTMA APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

RMTMA’s Apprenticeship Program is registered through the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment entity. As the Program Sponsor, we are looking for Host Companies who are looking to create an apprenticeship at their machine shop.

Under our state-registered program, we are able to include more apprenticeships (outside of Machinists) to fit the needs of our members. If you’re interested in learning more, please complete the form below.

Benefits of Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is a proven strategy for talent development, career preparation, and ensuring we help create a pipeline of employees for our members and industry.

Key benefits:

  • Recruit, train, and retain a skilled workforce

  • 'Grow your own’ talent to meet your specific needs

  • Access a more diverse candidate pool

  • Provides leadership opportunity to current employees, increasing their engagement with your company as they mentor and manage apprentices

Steps for Shops Who Have an Apprentice

If you already have an employee that you want to put in the program (both a green employee or an existing employee that you want to continue their education) here are the steps:

  1. The apprentice will need to apply for the Apprenticeship Program by filling out the Apprentice Application.

  2. The shop will need to complete the Employer Acceptance Agreement. This info is used to tie your shop with the RMTMA Apprenticeship Program.

  3. Contact Diana Herring-Stark who is our registered Apprentice Consultant with the State of Colorado to get connected with eligible funding for schooling, on the job training, etc. dhstark@arapaheogov.com or 720-477-8798.

  4. Determine which school the Apprentice will be enrolling in (Community College of Denver is our main school) and have them apply. If applying at CCD, view the CCD Enrollment Steps. When the Apprentice receives funding for schooling the school will be paid directly for the tuition. Our program allows flexibility for which school the apprentice could attend.

  5. Confirm with Peter Hancock that all Apprentice paperwork and company paperwork are in the program and completed- phancock@pegrecruiting.com or 303-859- 2473

  6. When all paperwork is completed, your shop will receive login info to the RAPIDS online system to track Apprentice’s progress. (This email should have a subject line that reads “Add Program Employer User Account”. Check your junk/spam folder.)

  7. Apprentice can then start performing on-the-job training or schooling that is being credited towards the Machine Apprenticeship program.

  8. On a monthly basis, Shop will track progress on the RAPIDS online system

Steps for shops who want to enroll, but don’t currently have an apprentice

  1. An applicant-Apprentice will be presented to you. You'll interview them to confirm they would be a good fit for your shop.

  2. The apprentice will need to apply for the Apprenticeship Program by filling out the Apprentice Application.

  3. The shop will need to complete the Employer Acceptance Agreement. This info is used to tie your shop with the RMTMA Apprenticeship Program.

funding opportunities

The Rocky Mountain National Tooling & Machining Association is partnering with the Colorado Workforce System to ensure that eligible Apprentices have access to resources and support needed to successfully complete their apprenticeship.

To maximize the funding: it is best to have the employer and employee first fill out the application with the workforce center then start at the shop. There are more funding buckets they can pull from if they are a “new” employee. However there is still plenty of funding if the employee is already employed with the shop.

Your local Workforce Center may be able to provide financial support while you are in RMTMA Apprenticeship Program. Funding and services are available to eligible Apprentices and may include assistance with tuition, books and fees and/or supportive services, such as helping to purchasing tools, uniforms, transportation assistance, childcare assistance, etc.
