It’s time to hang up a NEW calendar and to begin practicing NEW habits and disciplines that will help ensure your personal and professional success in 2018. NEW beginnings are always exciting, yet they are often accompanied by change – either to our habits, our attitudes, or our behaviors.
My name is Mike Hirsh and I am the NEW president of NTMA’s Rocky Mountain Chapter. I’m honored and excited to lead alongside our chapter executive, Jim Duggins, and the rest of RMTMA’s board of directors. My first priority as chapter president is to visit each of our members. I want your input on the topics, events, and networking opportunities that will provide the most value to you and your team.
When I joined the NTMA, a long-time member told me, “You’ll only get as much out of the NTMA as you put in”. Today, if the NTMA were to rank members by how many of the benefits they use, I’d likely be ranked as a “Power User”. Guess that’s why I volunteered to be the chapter president – I’m passionate about our industry, love precision machining, and strive every day to be a better leader! So, here are the top three reasons I am an NTMA member:
1) Networking – I’ve only been an NTMA member for 6 ½ years, and have already made friendships that will last a lifetime. As a business owner, there are times when I feel like I’m alone on an island. Our industry has a unique set of challenges, and having others that I can call on when the going gets tough has been a really valuable lifeline.
2) Benchmarking Reports – The NTMA conducts two confidential surveys each year (Wage and Benefits, Operating Costs and Executive Compensation). Members that participate in the surveys receive the final reports at no charge. The benchmarking data is extremely relevant and valuable – it shows us where we are performing well and where we can improve. This benefit alone can justify the cost of NTMA membership.
3) NTMA-U – This online college-credit curriculum is a great training resource! There are 35+ modules that are STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and they have been specifically designed to address the workforce development challenges that many of our members are facing. The Rocky Mountain chapter has purchased a “Portal” which gives our member companies unlimited access to NTMA-U modules for $25 each.
Members also have access to an H/R employment law attorney (1-hr per month), Affinity Programs (discounted services), One Voice Advocacy, and a NEW Health Insurance offering (coming soon), among other things.
